TRUSSVILLE, Ala. —

Several students at Clay-Chalkville Middle School became sick Thursday morning after eating a cookie sold to them by a classmate.

Emergency medical personnel were called to the school to treat the affected students, according to Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin.

Gonsoulin stated that early testing showed no signs of illicit substances in the cookies, saying, "at this point, we don’t know if this was a case of food poisoning or something else."

Gonsoulin added that the sale of anything between students, including snacks and candy, is a violation of the Student-Parent Handbook, asking that parents keep an eye on what their child brings to school.
