DENVER (KDVR) — A man was taken to a hospital after a reported stabbing on Monroe Street in Thornton on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Thornton Police Department, the stabbing occurred in the 9100 block of Monroe Street and a suspect was in custody as of about 3:40 p.m.

The Meadow Community School is located in the area. The school serves pre-kindergarten through 8th grade and is part of the Mapleton Public Schools district.

The extent of the victim's wounds was not shared immediately on Thursday afternoon, but the Thornton agency said that the public should expect police in the area for "an extended period."

The agency also asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation is underway.
