WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A convicted sex offender arrested in September in the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl and two young female family members was indicted Thursday.
A McLennan County grand jury indicted John Dempsey Shotwell, 41, on a continuous sexual assault of a young child charge, four counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by contact. The sexual assault and indecency counts were enhanced by a 2012 sexual assault of a child conviction for which Shotwell was sentenced to 12 years.
Shotwell faces an automatic life prison term if convicted on the enhanced charges and a minimum of 25 years without parole up to life without parole on the continuous charge.
