A woman who was abused as a child told how her trauma continues years on after her anonymity was allegedly breached online. The victim, whose abuser Ashif Nashaat was jailed in September 2023 for 18 years , says she now wishes she had never given evidence due to ongoing trauma and "harassment".
Following the trial, she says she discovered her police statement had been shared by a woman in chat messages on social media. This transcript reportedly showed her full name and responses she gave in a police interview carried out in sexual assault investigations.
The Middlesbrough woman told Teesside Live she is now afraid of going out as she feels people may know she was the victim in the case. "This has retraumatised me in the worst way possible," she said.
