GADSDEN, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The city of Gadsden and its police department is receiving a grant that they say will help improve safety on the road.

The city announced Thursday that they are receiving a grant and funds from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) that will allow officers to conduct “concentrated traffic enforcement” in hot spots where traffic violations and accidents happen the most.

The city says the main goal is to reduce traffic accident-related injuries and fatalities with a focus on speeding, DUI, seatbelt usage, and distracted driving.

Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford says the city is grateful to be able to focus with NHTSA and ADECA on the initiative.
