ATMORE, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Alabama has carried out the execution of a man convicted of a 1993 murder in Talladega County.
Anthony Boyd was sentenced to death after being convicted of helping murder Gregory Huguley, who was burned alive in 1993, over a $200 drug debt.
Boyd maintained he was innocent, even suing the state before his execution saying nitrogen hypoxia caused “extreme pain and terror of suffocation.”
Boyd’s execution lasted roughly 30 minutes, according to witnesses. ADOC commissioner John Hamm said he believes this is the longest execution by nitrogen hypoxia the state has carried out.
