CANTON, Ohio (WKBN) - Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Clay Matthews was among the 34 senior nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026.

Matthews was previously a finalist for the Hall of Fame in 2021.

Three other former Browns also moved on to the next stage, including linebacker Carl Banks, defensive end Jim Marshall and cornerback Everson Walls.

The group of 34 will be narrowed down to nine semifinalists before three finalists are selected for the final phase of voting early next year.

Matthews, who played 16 seasons with the Browns, was a three-time All-Pro and was named to the Pro Bowl four times during his career.

He appeared in 278 games and piled up 1,561 career tackles.
