A protestor who was detained for his Star Wars-themed protest of the National Guard on Sept. 11 is suing the District of Columbia.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Thursday filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Sam O’Hara, alleging that his constitutional rights were violated when Metropolitan Police Department officers handcuffed and arrested him while he was “peacefully protesting” against the troop deployment in D.C.
The lawsuit claims O’Hara was walking “several feet behind” Guard members and playing Darth Vader’s “Imperial March” theme through a phone and “small” speaker as troops patrolled the Logan Circle neighborhood.
