CHEYENNE — President Donald Trump’s intent to import more beef from Argentina to reduce domestic prices has the American cattle industry, including in Wyoming, uncertain about the future.
Industry representatives say it doesn’t address root issues that have caused higher prices, while economists say they are unsure it will even accomplish the president’s financial goal.
In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump sent a message to his nation’s cattle producers.
“If it weren’t for me, they would be doing just as they’ve done for the past 20 years — Terrible! It would be nice if they would understand that, but they also have to get their prices down, because the consumer is a very big factor in my thinking, also!” he wrote.
