CONCORD, N.H. —
Abortion policy, a high-profile issue that had been on hold for months at the State House, returned to discussion Thursday.
The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a new amendment that would require written parental consent to transport a minor for an abortion.
Democrats argued the amendment would be more restrictive than current law, which already includes emergency exceptions and a judicial waiver process. Republicans disagreed.
"This doesn't change that. But for someone to take it upon themselves to drive a minor to a surgical procedure, regardless of the surgery, that is not appropriate to do that; it is not their place to do that with someone else's children," said Sen. Daryl Abbas, R-Salem.
