TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Following a complex trench rescue that happened a few months ago, the Tucson Fire Department is participating in a trench rescue training exercise alongside crews from across the United States and Mexico.
The three-day training, hosted by TFD and led by CMC Rescue, a national group that specializes in trench rescues, brings in fire crews from California, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Mexico.
TFD Capt. Jamie Sieminski said while trench rescues are relatively infrequent, they’re risky.
“Trench rescue is very risky because at any point, if that dirt falls on you, you’re talking thousands of pounds, so when you exhale, that’s the last time you’re gonna be able to inhale,” Sieminski said.
