For U.S. Army veteran Shevonne Harris, the Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down isn’t just another volunteer event, it's a full-circle moment.
Once a single mother facing homelessness, Harris now spends her time helping other veterans find the stability and support she once needed.
“This was before we started our stand down. That was earlier when it was just me and my four kids… we ended up staying at a shelter for a while,” Harris said. “I went through social services, the job club, and back to school at Santa Barbara Business College. It was hard being a single parent, but I did it.”
