BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Deputies are searching for answers after they made an unexpected discovery.
Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said he recovered two stolen brass grave markers while conducting a separate investigation Friday in Mingo County.
“When you think about anyone stealing gravestone, much less a World War II veteran or a child or something, it’s just disheartening morally and ethically off the charts to me,” Barker said.
One of the markers belonged to Ed Lewis.
His family told WSAZ’s Abbey Lord that the Logan County native was a World War II Army veteran who fought in major battles. He also was a coal miner for 40 years.
The family said they are glad to have the grave marker back.
