SPARTANBURG, S.C. —
The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen is reporting a significant increase in visitors seeking meals as the government shutdown continues.
The organization said it served approximately 375 guests on Wednesday, well above its daily average of around 300.
"This week has been one of the busiest we’ve seen in months," said Monica Floyd, Executive Director of the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. "We know the shutdown and delays in benefits are creating added stress for many families. No one in our community should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, and we're here to make sure they don't."
The Spartanburg Soup Kitchen relies entirely on donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and civic organizations to operate year-round.
