GREENVILLE, S.C. —

As the government shutdown continues, hundreds of thousands of South Carolinians who rely on Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, are starting to look to local organizations ahead of November.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services announced Wednesday that SNAP benefits will be halted in November, and will remain unavailable until the government shutdown ends.

As South Carolinians prepare for the month ahead, local organizations are stepping in to do what they can to help those experiencing food insecurity in their own communities.

Mill Village Farms in Greenville operates a fresh food program, Greenville FoodShare, which works alongside FoodShareSC to provide farm-fresh fruits and vegetables to families in the community.
