COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina SNAP recipients are facing uncertainty about their November benefits as the government shutdown continues.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) released an alert on Tuesday, saying funds may not be issued next month if the government shutdown continues. Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture also sent a notice to states .
Mary Louise Beach-Jamila said she depends on her SNAP benefits every month. She was recovering after having her benefits stolen twice in a row when the new uncertainty emerged.
“This is what I depend on every single month. If I don’t have it, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” Beach-Jamila said. “I feel like breaking down and crying. I swore I wouldn’t cry.”
