CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Two people were hospitalized and at least two cats died in a Cedar Rapids house fire Thursday.
At approximately 6:32 p.m. Thursday, Cedar Rapids Police and firefighters responded to a house fire in the 300 block of 16th Street NE. Two people were inside when the fire started.
Upon arrival, officers rescued a person trapped on the porch roof with a nearby ladder. Another person in the home escaped.
Fire crews put out the fire around 6:50 p.m. The home’s second floor sustained damage.
Both individuals were taken to a local hospital. Fire crews rescued several cats and two dogs, but two cats died in the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
