BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - For decades, the Jimmie Hale Mission has served as a lifeline for people experiencing homelessness in Birmingham. Now, the organization is preparing to expand its impact with a new $4 million shelter planned for the heart of downtown.
Executive Director Perryn Carroll said the new two-story facility will sit along 2nd Avenue North, directly across from the Mission’s existing men’s campus. She described the project as more than just a construction effort — it’s an investment in helping people rebuild their lives.
The Mission purchased the property last year, transforming what was once an old storage lot into a space for hope and restoration. The city of Birmingham has already pledged the first $1 million toward construction.
