HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WBRC ) - It’s been two weeks since the City of Homewood approved a new ordinance placing stricter rules on encampments in public spaces.

Now, after training its officers, the Homewood Police Department says it’s ready to begin enforcement.

Police Sgt. Mark Trippe said the process began with patrol officers - the ones most likely to respond first to calls involving encampments. Over the past several weeks, those officers have been learning how to handle those situations and what the new ordinance allows.

Trippe said officers have also ordered notification stickers that will be used to mark encampments. Under the new law, police are required to give 24 hours’ notice before anyone must leave the area.
