New Delhi: Over the past month, instances of alleged atrocities against Dalits—from abuse, to targeting, to discrimination leading to suicide—have been reported in BJP-ruled states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
These incidents, and the way they have been handled, have once again put the spotlight on what is being seen as the ruling party’s deficiency in addressing the concerns of backward communities in India and the challenges of integrating Dalits into the broader Hindutva family, especially at a time when Bihar elections are around the corner.
