Outspoken objectors have failed to stop Merivale helmsman Justin Hemmes’ boldest ever project from successfully passing through council.

Sydney City Council on Thursday night recommended approval for a $56 million, 24-hour entertainment precinct which combines historic buildings on York St, King St and Clarence St in the CBD.

Hemmes earmarked sections of the precinct for different types of venues including a jazz bar, night-club, hotel, spa, and restaurants.

Council planners supported the masterplan and considered the “public interest” of the development.

However, council had received dozens of submissions against development before Thursday's meeting.

Locals expressed their concerns regarding “noise” and the “lack of community consultation”.
