Police have admitted they believe the search for alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman will not come to a close without help from the public as a new strategy in the manhunt is unveiled.

Freeman has been at large since he allegedly murdered Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart, 35, while officers carried out a search warrant relating to child sex allegations at his property in Victoria’s north-east on August 26.

It comes despite a major search operation being launched to try and locate Freeman after he fled the scene, with hundreds of officers deployed to scour Porepunkah and the surrounding area in the following days and weeks.
