SPOKANE, Wash. – Students at North Central High School are taking initiative by hosting a voter registration event, giving their peers a two-year head start on becoming registered voters.
The event was organized by the Civic Engagement Club, and senior Lucy Woods, who is the club’s vice president, shared her thoughts on the importance of such activities.
“Such a diverse student body and not every place feels represented,” Woods said. “And so this is really about just getting everyone to participate and feel like they have a voice in politics.”
Last year, the club successfully registered 80 students to vote. This year, they aim to reach 90, and they are already making progress by encouraging students during lunch.
