Enterprising works of beauty starts with vision, and for the past couple of months as Gateway 2 Success students dug a thousand holes, they don’t see just a dirt field, they see what Troy Veeneman envisions, thousands of stunning peonies of several varieties that will add brightness and cheer to people’s lives.

Veeneman, owner of The Roots Peony Farm, won the grand prize from the Momentum Business Plan Competition this past spring — the competition being administered by the Chamber Alliance of Mason County and supported with funding from Pennies from Heaven.

Situated on 40 acres in Hamlin Township, The Roots Peony Farm will provide wholesale peonies to local flower shops, markets and buyers in Michigan, and will be one of the three biggest peony farms in the state.
