SAN FRANCISCO – There’s no better way to take an extra early assessment of this season’s Warriors than to see them confront the Denver Nuggets, a championship contender and one of the few teams to dominate Golden State in recent years.

There was no dominating Thursday night at Chase Center. The Warriors and Nuggets exchanged blows throughout the evening. Beyond regulation and into overtime.

Jimmy Butler III and Jonathan Kuminga , fantastic in the season opener two nights ago, submitted more mortal performances, but Stephen Curry put on his cape, hanging 42 points on the Nuggets to lead a searing 137-131 OT victory.

Curry needed all his 42 points to offset a spectacular shooting night by Denver forward Aaron Gordon.
