William "Kennie" Bass Jr., a longtime broadcast journalist for WCHS-TV, died Tuesday at age 62.
He had been battling cancer. He retired in January, and his family made the decision to move him to hospice care earlier this month.
While his career spanned nearly 50 years, in 2017 Bass became widely known for his investigative reporting on wasteful spending by the West Virginia Supreme Court.
In 2018, Mark Hanna, who was convicted of murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend Leslie Marty, contacted Bass to tell him where he’d buried Marty's body.
