ON THIS DAY IN 1905 , the Brooklyn Daily Eagle said, “In Prospect Park Plaza there stands one of the finest arch monuments in America. It was dedicated in 1892 in honor of the brave soldiers and sailors who fought in our wars. This arch stands for those who bravely gave their lives for their country. The top of the arch overlooks the surrounding country, and the position of the iron sailors and soldiers on it makes them look as if ready to jump from their high place and fight for their country, if any one should dare dishonor it.”
