A donation to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) University is looking to help bring family doctors to underserved communities across the region.
The RBC Foundation gifted $250,000 to NOSM to support new initiatives over the next three years to train and retain doctors in rural, remote, Indigenous, and francophone communities.
Dr. Sarah Newbery, associate dean of physician workforce strategy at NOSM University, is leading the initiative to address the region's ongoing doctor shortages by focusing on recruitment, hands-on community-based training, and strategic retention programs.
"This generous donation from RBC Foundation allows us to further develop the Rural Generalist Pathway," Newbery said.
"It directly supports resident trainees in Northern Ontario's rural communities
