The Yuma County Water Users’ Association is reminding residents, businesses and farmers that dumping trash into canals, drainage ditches or agricultural fields is illegal and can have serious environmental and economic consequences.
In a public notice issued this week, the association urged the community to help protect the area’s water supply and irrigation systems by properly disposing of waste materials.
“Maintaining clean and debris-free canals, drains and fields is essential to protect our community’s water quality and agricultural resources,” the association said in the statement.
The YCWUA warned that trash and debris in the county’s canal system can contaminate irrigation water, harm crops and damage vital infrastructure that supports the region’s farming industry.
