ANDERSON, Calif. - The Anderson Police Department reported a significant decrease in crime for 2024, with a 33% drop compared to the previous year.

Action News Now spoke with Anderson Police on Wednesday to understand the details behind these new numbers.

The department noted that Part 1 crimes, which encompass offenses like rape, assault, and larceny, fell from 373 incidents to 250 in the past year.

According to Anderson Police, property crimes showed the most improvement, with burglaries dropping by 78% and thefts decreasing by 46%.

Despite these positive trends, violent crimes increased by 58%, largely due to more assaults and robberies.

Robberies jumped from 7 to 13 incidents, marking an 85% rise, while assaults surged by 83%, from 40 in 2023 to 73 in 2024.
