There were jewels in the grass.

Sapphires and emeralds, mostly, a few rubies scattered here and there, some that may have been topaz. Most of them changed colour slightly as the light coming through the trees shifted but through my lens they stayed bright and beautiful.

They were crystals of frost, of course, tiny prisms that were breaking the morning sun into its constituent colours. With the ground behind them still in shadow, they absolutely glowed. Focusing directly on them, though, they all but disappeared. They were, in truth, just minuscule specks of bright light, more like stars in the night sky than glowing orbs like the sun and moon.
