There will be no federal disaster aid coming to parts of Allegany and Garrett counties suffered millions in damage from flooding in May.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Maryland Gov. Wes Moore’s appeal for a major disaster declaration for those two counties in Western Maryland.
Moore accuses FEMA of politicizing disaster relief as President Donald Trump refused to issue a disaster declaration. Moore added that the $33.7 million in damage the state sustained is three times the threshold for getting federal aid.
Trump approved major disaster declarations for Alaska, Nebraska, North Dakota and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe on Wednesday.
As of Friday morning, FEMA has not responded to Moore’s remarks.
