MARION, N.C. (WNCN) – Two small earthquakes made their presence felt in western North Carolina early Friday morning.
Both were recorded close to the town of Marion, which is around 30 miles east of Asheville.
The first struck just after midnight as a 2.2 on the Richter scale at a depth of more than six miles.
A second earthquake of similar size measured 2.1 in magnitude, hitting roughly the same location around 5:35 a.m. at a depth of around two miles.
Approximately one million earthquakes of similar size impact the globe annually, but are usually not felt.
