The National Assembly (MPs) are sitting exceptionally on Friday to rush through a special bill that would impose a new method of remuneration on doctors and put an end to their pressure tactics.
Premier François Legault also indicated that he would include measures in this special bill to prevent a potential exodus of doctors.
The Legault government and doctors have been at loggerheads since Health Minister Christian Dubé introduced Bill 106 last May, which aims to link part of doctors’ remuneration to performance indicators.
The doctors argue that they need more resources (for example, the opening of more operating rooms) to achieve the government’s objectives. They also accuse the CAQ of wanting “fast-food” medicine.
