India’s naval strength got a major boost this week with the delivery of ‘Mahe’, the first in a new series of advanced anti-submarine warships built entirely in the country.
Constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi, Mahe is the first of eight such Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts that will join the Indian Navy’s fleet in the coming years.
Named after the historic port town of Mahe in Puducherry, the vessel reflects India’s maritime heritage and growing capability in warship design and construction.
At about 78 metres long and weighing around 1,100 tonnes, Mahe is compact but powerful. It carries torpedoes, multi-functional anti-submarine rockets, and sophisticated radar and sonar systems that allow it to detect underwater threats with precision. The ship can also
