The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) sets out the rights and obligations of employers and workers pertaining to workplace safety.

It also sets out processes for legal enforcement for non-compliance. It applies to provincially-regulated workers.

The OHSA states that no employer or person acting on behalf of an employer shall intimidate, dismiss or penalize an employee or threaten to do so because the employee has acted in compliance with or has sought the enforcement of the OHSA. If an employer does any of those things it is called an “unlawful reprisal” and a worker is entitled to various remedies.
