An inquest has begun into the death of a Wiikwemkoong man who died four days after being placed in custody at the Sudbury District Jail.
Justin Alexander Trudeau, 44, died on Feb. 13, 2021 at the Sudbury jail. The jury has yet to hear what his suspected cause of death was.
On Monday, the first day of the eight-day inquest, testimony was focused on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the correctional system.
The jury heard testimony from two nurses who were working in the jail at the time of Trudeau’s death.
'Devoted father’
At the time of his admission into the jail, Trudeau was seen by nursing staff and given medication to treat an infected wound he had on his hand, the inquest heard.
