A new ordinance in Alamo is aimed at keeping children safe during school hours.
Traffic on Ridge and Alamo roads is a daily struggle for many parents, with lines of cars stretching down the street as kids get picked up and dropped off.
City leaders say students jaywalking was becoming a safety risk outside PSJA Memorial Early College High School.
During a Tuesday meeting, city commissioners discussed an ordinance to impose traffic safety measures and student pedestrian crossings on Ridge Road.
The ordinance bans parking along parts of Ridge Road during school hours, and gives police the right to give out citations.
New stop signs, street markings and traffic lights and other signage will be put up near the high school.
The city did not give a timeline on when that will happen.
