Generation Z has entered the council chambers of several municipalities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Following this year’s municipal election, at least six councillors and one deputy mayor are under the age of 24, serving in communities from St. John’s to Cartwright.

In St. John’s, 22-year-old Kate Cadigan is the youngest councillor in the city's history.

“It’s been eye-opening over the course of this campaign to hear how many young people don’t feel represented in our political spaces, so I intend to take the role very seriously, knowing the younger generation is looking to be represented,” Cadigan said.

In Bay Bulls, Ethan Williams, 21, was acclaimed as a councillor after he was first elected at age 19.
