The 78-year-old pedestrian who died at the hospital after a van struck him on Branch Avenue in Providence is Michael Demaula, according to Providence police .

Demaula was hit on the night of Thursday, Oct. 23, at the intersection of Branch Avenue and Abram Street, a police spokeswoman, Kristy dosReis, said on Friday.

He later died at Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, she said.

An investigation continues.
