As a real estate agent working in Duluth, I would like to respond to the News Tribune’s Oct. 14 “Our View/Endorsement” editorial, “ Duluth tenants can protect themselves by voting 'no' .”

I’ve seen firsthand how the lack of accountability among some landlords can deeply impact tenants. Voting “yes” on Question 1 in the Nov. 4 election will help protect Duluth’s 35,000-some renters . Many of the people I work with are first-time homebuyers who are still renting, and the number of clients living in unacceptable conditions is staggering. I’m talking about leaking ceilings, windows that won’t close, bathrooms filled with visible mold from poor ventilation, rat infestations, and more. I wish I could say these were isolated cases, but they’re far too common.
