MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Duluth drew first blood in its nonconference series with Minnesota, beating its biggest in-state rival 3-0 on Friday on the Gophers’ campus in Minneapolis.

Bulldogs centermen Daniel Shlaine and Zam Plante scored in the first period while freshman defenseman Grayden Siepmann picked up his first collegiate goal early in the third period.

UMD sophomore goaltender Adam Gajan made 17 saves on 17 shots to earn his first shutout of the season and second of his college career while Gophers junior goalie Luca Di Pasquo stopped 21 of 24 shots.

Minnesota swept UMD in a two-game series last fall in Duluth, winning 7-5 and 5-1 at Amsoil Arena.
