After two years at the helm of the powerful United Steelworkers union, Dave McCall is stepping aside, forging the way for Roxanne Brown, the union’s first female leader, to take the reins of an expansive organization that has come to represent far more than steel.

“Roxanne has devoted her life’s work to advancing the interests of working families, fighting for fair wages, affordable health care, dignified retirements and strong labor rights,” Mr. McCall said in a statement. “I can think of no one better qualified to lead our union as we navigate this unprecedented era of largely unchecked corporate greed.”
