Duquesne Light plans to transfer power to its new Downtown Pittsburgh substation next week, and customers in the Golden Triangle can expect some brief power outages, road work and lane closures.

The Watson Substation, in the city’s Bluff neighborhood, will serve as Downtown’s third major power source, officials said in announcing the project last week.

Crews will conduct the work Oct. 28 and 29, with work starting about 10 p.m. each night, according to Duquesne Light. The company expects a temporary power outage of 30 minutes or less, pending “unforeseen circumstances beyond the company’s control.”

The company said customers should not be affected by outages more than once as crews focus on different parts of the city each night.
