RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Ten months after a child suffered a fentanyl overdose, a 37-year-old Fayetteville woman has been arrested for negligent child abuse.

The arrest warrant for Devvan Marie Freeman states that on Dec. 7, 2024, she "showed a reckless disregard for human life by leaving the child in a place where fentanyl is freely used and loosely stored."

The baby, who had access to the loose drugs, was hospitalized for treatment of an overdose, the warrant also said.

Wake County court records show Devvan Marie Freeman has had a warrant out for her arrest since June 12, 2025. She was taken into custody on Friday by the Raleigh Police Department.
