Singapore, Oct 24: An Indian-origin man, Dilip Kumar Nirmal Kumar, has been charged for illegally setting off fireworks during Diwali celebrations, despite a strict ban on fireworks in Singapore, PTI reported quoting local media.
The incident occurred last week along the open field of Carlisle Road, near Kampong Java Flyover. Under Singapore’s Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021, lighting fireworks without permission is a punishable offence.
The case came to light after an eight-second video of the fireworks, shared on Instagram by onlooker Aun Koh, circulated online. Eyewitnesses told Shin Min Daily News that the fireworks display took place around 10:15 pm at a construction site.
