MYRTLE BEACH — After calling the Myrtle Beach area home for more than two decades, the muscle car celebration known as Mustang Week will be moving to Charlotte next August.

James Lawrence, lead organizer for the automotive event, announced the move Oct. 22, calling it a new chapter for his team and the fans.

Mustang Week, advertised as the ultimate Ford Mustang car show, has a 23-year history on the Grand Strand, but Lawrence said the move was "necessary to ensure the event’s future."

"Carrying the torch of Mustang Week to Charlotte from Myrtle is bittersweet,” Lawrence wrote in a news release.
