Santos pardoned: President Donald Trump announced last Friday that he would commute the 87-month prison sentence of former New York congressmember and convicted fraudster George Santos, drawing strong bipartisan pushback. Santos had only served three months in prison at the time of his pardon.
Santos was elected in 2022 to represent New York’s 3rd District, which includes a large chunk of Long Island and parts of Queens, kicking off what would become one of the most scandal-marred political tenures in modern history. As a representative, Santos quickly gained notoriety for fabricating much of his background, including his employment history and education.
