Kitty Hawk Police warn about crypto scams

On the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 22, the Kitty Hawk Police Department posted this warning about an increase in crypto scams.

We are seeing more crypto currency scams involving Bitcoin ATMs in our community.

Some fraudsters are contacting unsuspecting victims and convincing them that there is a past due bill or charge that they need to pay for. The fraudster then requests the victim take out cash and insert it into the bitcoin ATM to purchase crypto currency and send that crypto to the offender’s account.

We are also seeing fraudsters posing as security agents trying to help victims with a fraud they have fabricated. Please check your accounts and verify all fraud claims. Hang up and call the bank directly. Do not consult with a person who has
