RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program has announced it will enforce its annual ‘Halloween Booze It & Lose It’ campaign from October 27th to November 2nd.

The state Department of Transportation says law enforcement will increase patrolling and sobriety checkpoints to catch impaired drivers during the holiday week.

“A critical part of celebrating Halloween is planning ahead to ensure the safety of everyone,” said NCGHSP Director Mark Ezzell. “Drivers should secure a designated sober driver to transport you to and from your festivities.”

DOT says 588 DWI arrests were made during last year’s Halloween campaign.
